Introduction to Pointe Preparation
Course Overview & Enrolment Guidelines
Transitioning onto pointe is one of the most exciting and significant milestones in a dancer's journey. Invitation to this class is a prestigious opportunity awarded strictly to students who have demonstrated technical excellence, maturity, and a strong work ethic in their Grade 5 Ballet class.
Curriculum & Purpose
This specialised preparation class is a formal component of our syllabus structure. It is designed to bridge the gap between classical soft-shoe technique and advanced pointe work.
Syllabus Progression: Prepares dancers for higher examination grades where pointe work becomes a compulsory element of the marking criteria.
Targeted Conditioning: Focuses on strengthening the feet, ankles, calves, and core, while developing correct alignment and weight distribution necessary to support body weight safely on pointe.
Technique & Safety: Emphasises proper foot articulation, balance, and control to prevent injury and foster confidence before progressing to full pointe shoes.
Enrolment Requirements
Due to the intense physical demands and strength required for safe pointe work, enrolment is subject to strict co-requisite rules:
Grade Co-requisite: Dancers must be actively enrolled in and attending Grade 5 Ballet. Dancers in Grade 4 or lower are strictly unable to take this class due to the physical strength and developmental prerequisites required.
Maturity & Readiness: Placement in this class acknowledges that the student has shown the focus, discipline, and bodily awareness necessary for safe pointe preparation.
Ongoing Expectations & Commitment
Pointe work requires consistent dedication. To maintain a place in this preparation class, dancers must adhere to the following ongoing standards:
